Bampton Group
Bampton Group is a venture capital and advisory firm with
offices in San Francisco, New York and the UK that for more
than ten years has successfully invested in and worked with a
wide range of technology companies seeking to expand
transatlantically. Every company in which Bampton has invested
has gone on either to IPO or trade sale.

Bampton is currently working with investors in its new $100
million fund focused on transatlantic expansion and is actively
seeking established businesses ready to undertake this. Bampton
has in the past invested in businesses in enterprise software,
telecoms equipment, media, medical devices and software focused
around drug discovery. Typical investments are up to $10
million over a three year period and Bampton works very closely
with the board and management of its portfolio companies
throughout this period, becoming very actively involved in the
establishment or development of the new international
operations. Because of its focus on helping businesses with
commercially proven products and services to expand between the
US and Europe, Bampton does not invest in pre-revenue companies
and prefers to work with businesses considering Series B or C
venture capital rounds.

Jeremy Woan
Jeremy Woan is Bamptons CEO and is primarily based in San
Francisco, CA but also travels frequently to Europe. His
investment focus is enterprise software and healthcare products
and services although he has also invested in and managed media
businesses.

Previously, he successfully built two technology companies
through to IPO as CEO, in each case pursuing a business model
where the companies started in the UK but built the majority of
their business and activities in the USA.

Prior to this he worked for 8 years for several leading
international investment banking firms where he specialized in
the transatlantic growth and financing of small and medium
technology companies.

Woan is a frequent panelist and speaker at US and European
conferences on early stage technology investing and especially
on the issues of raising finance and growing transatlantically
In the current academic year he is also Entrepreneur in
Residence at the Eller College of Management at the University
of Arizona. He holds graduate degrees from Cambridge University

"The Future of Open Source Communities---The Impact of Exchanges,
Forges and Marketplaces as discussed by experts from SourceForge,
Microsoft, Collabnet and SugarCRM."

Today, building a sustainable community is critical to the
success of a commercial open source venture, yet there is greater
demand for open source developers than there is availability. How
does a company build a community of developers, customers, and
partners and provide commercial opportunities for themselves and
their community members while respecting their non-commercial
constituents? How do you blend commerce and community? Is the
growing trend of exchanges, forges and marketplaces the answer?
What exactly are they and how do they differ?

SDForum is bringing together a panel of distinguished innovators
in the world of open source online communities. The panel will
discuss the various aspects of forges and exchanges and their
impact on the evolution of open source.

Join us for some food, wine, networking, and an informative and
insightful evening.

Description Highlight

We all have dreams about our future and what we want to be. But
a lot of times our dream cannot become reality. Some just give
up their dreams easily while others are not going to give up
until their dreams become true.

On the journey of entrepreneurship, there are lots of
uncertainty and obstacles. It is a long and lonely journey.
Only those who have courage, persistency and confidence will
make to the end. Only those who are committed to perform above
and beyond can make their dreams into the reality.

It is around the end of the year. It is also a good time to
review what we have done and think about to keep our dream
alive while celebrating the holiday season.

Topics of Discussion:

- Lessons are learned
- The dos and donts.
- What entrepreneurs needed the most at the very early stage
venture?
- What are the typical issues and obstacles for entrepreneurs?
- How to overcome those obstacles?

Video games have come a long way since the arcade-style machine
that had to be pumped with quarters and played by pressing buttons.
Today's games, whether console-driven or computer-based, offer
incredible interactive experiences with rich, realistic graphics,
gesture-
based user interfaces, and in some cases, the opportunity to interact
with players around the world.

Although video game software gets most of the press, sophisticated
and innovative hardware plays a big role in driving the future of
gaming.
Advanced microprocessors and novel sensing systems create the
platforms upon which these games can be built. Microprocessors have
increased in power to create higher resolution graphics and handle a
wider variety of inputs to the game. Game controllers are
evolving with
gyroscopes and other MEMS-based orientation and motion sensors.
Game designers are working on ?first-person shooter? games that will
incorporate biometric sensing such as pulse and respiration. Micro-
displays and micro-speakers increasingly provide portable immersive
experiences. These new hardware technologies will create even more
possibilities for designers to enhance the interactivity of
future games.

Join us for an exciting discussion by our panel of innovators who
develop the processors, sensors, and hardware that drive the gaming
experience.

Topics to be discussed:
- What will the games of the near future and far future be like?
- How do novel user interfaces influence game design?
- Where are the opportunities for innovation in hardware development
for gaming?
- For console-driven gaming, can any new company challenge
Playstation and X-Box? How?
- How can specialty microprocessors and chips influence gaming?
