The Practice of Clinical Supervision

Course Number: CPSY x 374
.6 CEU or 6 CE hours
Approved for: MFT / LCSW / RN / LVN / Psychologists

Clinical supervision is one of the most important areas of
psychotherapy training. Some view it as the principal method for
preparing counselors-in-training for psychotherapeutic practice.
However, until recently little focus had been given to skills and
qualifications needed to be an effective supervisor.

The goals of the course are four-fold: to understand
developmental needs of supervisee, gain exposure to differing
supervisory styles, gain insight into one's supervisory style,
and receive overview of regulations and ethical standards for
supervision. Theoretical and applied aspects of supervision will
be explored. Through case studies, discussion, peer supervision
and research, participants will have an opportunity to explore
relevant issues and effective supervisory styles. Participants
are encouraged to bring in cases for discussion.

Instructor: Lucila Ramos-Sanchez, Ph.D. is a licensed
psychologist and an assistant professor in the Department of
Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University. Dr.
Ramos-Sanchez has extensive training and experience in
supervision. She is coordinator of the Latino Counseling Emphasis
in the counseling psychology program and maintains a private
practice in Los Altos.

This Month's Event: Healthy Lifestyle Choices
Silicon Valley is known for, among other things, its intense
pace - for rate of innovation and overall productivity - and
its bottom-line results. But sustaining that pace, and that
focus on the corporate bottom line does pay a toll for our
leaders and our workers.

This month, we will be building our December discussion about
Work-Life Balance and talk about making healthy lifestyle
choices for ourselves and for our families, while still
succeeding and thriving in the intense Silicon Valley pace.

Our facilitator Geetha Rao, Partner with AuxoGlobal and serial
life science company CEO, will facilitate a discussion which
will cover how nonprofit organizations and corporations can
support Silicon Valley residents and workers in making
sustainable, balanced, healthy life-style choices favoring
exercise, diet and stress-management.

Facilitator Geetha Rao, Partner at AuxoGlobal, will talk about
her role as CEO and adviser to life science and how these
companies are partnering with companies, individuals and the
government to provide medical solutions that will support the
proactive management of our life choices.

Panelist Linda Williams, CEO of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte,
will describe how the region's largest nonprofit is proactively
supporting women in the region with healthy reproductive
management options, and how we as a region can support them in
achieving an objective beneficial to all in the region.

Panelist Julie Johnston, HR Benefits Manager at El Camino
Hospital will cover not only her efforts to sustain healthy
work-life balance practices within a large nonprofit
organization, but also how the hospital partners with employers
and individuals in the area to foster the adaptation of healthy
diet, exercise and stress-management practices

Panelist Lisa Jing, HR Manager, Integrated Healthcare
Initiative at Cisco Systems, will describe her efforts to
instill healthy, balanced perspectives within a large corporate
known for its focus on efficient, effective and assertive
employees focused on bottom-line results.

It is our hope that this session will help you think critically
about the lifestyle choices you are making now, and consider
the resources, tools and tools offered as additional support
for you and your family. We hope to make connections between
like-minded attendees to foster ongoing discussions on this and
other related topics.
