Organization Description | Diamond Dynamic" is a training program that enables women professionals working with men to become more valued, effective and authentic. The program was developed by Mike Johnson, corporate trainer, consultant, speaker and author based in Silicon Valley. Mike created the program in response to requests by women clients who were frustrated by: feeling excluded from teams comprised mostly of men, ineffective communication, and not being taken seriously. Mike's extensive background in sales, marketing and human behavior combine to offer women potent insight into working with men, and guidance on the application of effective, new attitudes and behaviors. Mike offers seminars and personal consulting, and women are invited to become part of a network of women practicing the Diamond Dynamic" approach.

Event Name | TiE ECONOMICS FORUM: Edward Luce, author of 'In Spite of the Gods: The Rise of Modern India'

Time | 6:00PM to 9:00PM | |
City | Santa Clara | |

Description | Edward Luce is the Washington Commentator for London's Financial Times, writing on the U.S. economy, politics and foreign affairs. He was formerly South Asia Bureau Chief based in Delhi. He has previously been a speechwriter to Larry Summers, Treasury secretary in the Clinton administration. Luce earned a degree in politics, philosophy and economics at the University of Oxford; he earned a postgraduate degree in newspaper journalism at City University in London. In In Spite of the Gods, Luce, who covered India for many years, makes brilliant sense of India and its rise to global power. Already a bestseller in India, his book is sure to be acknowledged for years as a definitive introduction to modern India. India remains a mystery to many, including most Indians, even as it is poised to become the world's third largest economy within a generation, outstripping Japan. It will surpass China in population by 2032 and will have more English speakers than the United States by 2050. In Spite of the Gods is an enlightening study of the forces shaping India as it tries to balance the traditions of the past with an unevenly modernizing present. Deeply informed by scholarship and history, leavened by humor and rich in anecdote, it shows that India has huge opportunities as well as tremendous challenges that make the future "hers to lose." Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the meeting. However, it may be even more interesting to read the book before hand. The book has just been released in the United States and can be purchased on Amazon.
