Date | Wednesday March 7, 2007
Time | 6:30PM | |
City | Santa Clara | |
Event Type | Speaker / Panel / Round Table
Event Area | Software | |
Hosted By | Silicon Valley Product Management Association
Description | ----------------- ABOUT THE SPEAKER ----------------- Mark Hammitt has built a 12-year career in enterprise software on an earlier, nine-year foundation of classical marketing at consumer-directed companies. Mark founded Crossbridge in 1992 to evaluate emerging markets in Asia, particularly Vietnam. By 1995, he had been pulled into enterprise software. Today, Mark helps technology companies build channel access to non-technical buyers; penetrate new markets; improve planning; and deploy sales models based on a tight interlock between sales, marketing and professional services. In 1998, Mark co-founded Black Pearl, a pioneer in master data management that was acquired in 2005. Earlier stints include strategic planning at Sybase; advising Fortune 500 clients at Deloitte Consulting; customer acquisition at American Express; and, product management at 3M Company. He holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Iowa State and an M.B.A. from Stanford. ------------- PRESENTATION ------------- At its essence, the marketing plan is a control document that promises revenue in exchange for budget, and choreographs activities across the organization. It is also a political document that establishes its author firmly at the helm of the product, product group, or brand. But the marketing plan is underused, lost in a sea of launch plans, sales plans, budget requests, communications plans, etc. This leads to confusion about product direction, and represents a lost opportunity for product marketers or product managers who have the skill and will to assume this responsibility. This talk will detail how to write a tight, powerful marketing plan that will get noticed up and across the organization. After introducing an overall structure adapted from classical consumer marketing models, Mark will dive into each section to address potentially tricky areas and offer tips on its formulation, acceptance, socialization, and execution.
